Jake Alexander was appointed to the N.C. Board of Transportation by Gov. Pat McCrory in January 2013. He represents Transportation Division 9, which includes Davidson, Davie, Forsyth, Rowan and Stokes counties.
Alexander earned a B.A. in political science at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
He has 25 years’ experience in managing transportation-related issues in both the public and private sectors, including successful leadership roles as a Deputy Secretary of the N.C. Department of Transportation and Vice President of the North Carolina Transportation Museum Foundation. He has also served as a member of the U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Motor Carrier Advisory Committee.
In the private sector, Alexander has extensive experience in marketing recycled tires for use in various industries. He is currently the Sales Director at Genan, Inc., where he is responsible for the sales and marketing of recycled rubber granulate for industrial and sports surfacing use.
Alexander has served on the Board of Directors for the Synthetic Turf Council, Community ONE Bank and Dover Mortgage, Inc., and has also contributed his experience and expertise as the former chairman of the Salisbury Planning Board, Salisbury Zoning Board of Adjustments, Waterworks Visual Arts Center and Piedmont Players Theatre.
Alexander is a member, elder and adult Sunday School teacher at First Presbyterian Church.
He and his wife Susan live in Salisbury and have two adult children, Margaret and Jacob, IV.
