Cheryl McQueary

Cheryl McQueary was appointed to the N.C. Board of Transportation by Gov. Pat McCrory in January 2013. She represents Transportation Division 7, which includes Alamance, Caswell, Guilford, Orange and Rockingham counties.

McQueary brings to her position more than three decades of experience in both the public and private sectors, including successful leadership roles in the telecommunications industry and at two federal agencies.

Her accomplishments in leading cross-modal research initiatives, advancing transportation technology and developing new businesses have provided her with the expertise to understand the multi-faceted, high-tech challenges facing the state’s transportation program.

McQueary most recently served as a Deputy Administrator of the Research and Innovative Technology Agency at the U.S. Department of Transportation. Prior to that, she served as Special Assistant to the Chief Information Officer at the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Both positions were appointments by President George W. Bush.

Prior to those appointments, McQueary spent 20 years in the rapidly advancing telecommunications industry, where she excelled in a variety of roles including marketing, sales, strategic planning, and program management.

McQueary earned a B.A. cum laude in zoology at Drew University, a Masters of Public Administration at Fairleigh Dickinson University, and Masters Certificates in Project Management and in Government Contracting from The George Washington University.

McQueary is extensively involved in the Greensboro community. She currently serves on the University of North Carolina, Greensboro Excellence Foundation Board, the Greensboro Historical Museum Inc. Board, and the TEDx Greensboro Leadership Team.

Her previous community service includes United Way of Greater Greensboro, the Joseph M. Bryan Foundation Community Grants Committee and the Greensboro Jaycees Community Advisory Council for the PGA Chrysler Classic of Greensboro Golf Tournament.

McQueary and her husband Chuck live in Greensboro.
