NCDOT TO IMPROVE MALLARD CREEK CHURCH ROAD IN MECKLENBURG COUNTY
RALEIGH---The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) started construction August 26 on Mallard Creek Church Road in Mecklenburg County.
The $3.3 million contract was awarded to Ferebee Corporation of Charlotte to widen Mallard Creek Church Road from two-to-four lanes from John Adams Road to U.S. 29 in Charlotte.
In spring 1997, Mallard Creek Church Road will close for one weekend to connect completed road sections and make traffic shifts. The Interstate 85 North exit ramp also will be closed, cutting off access to John Adams Road. Motorists will follow a signed detour route. The NCDOT will maintain access to local residents and businesses. Construction is expected to continue through December 1997.
No lane closings on Mallard Creek Church Road or U.S. 29 will occur Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. and from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Also, all lanes will remain open on holidays and holiday weekends. All lanes also will remain open for special events at Charlotte Motor Speedway and Blockbuster Pavilion from 6 a.m. the day before the event until 7 a.m. the day after the event.
The NCDOT urges motorists to stay alert while driving through the work zone. Watch for signs with up-to-date construction information. Obey the posted speed limit and allow extra travel time.
For more information about Mallard Creek Church Road construction, contact the resident engineer in Harrisburg at (704) 455-2958.
The North Carolina Board of Transportation members for this area are Peter Pappas and Frank Emory, Jr., both of Charlotte.
