Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) can be roughly grouped into the following 8 categories in North Carolina:
National studies state that for a community to offer a seamless and sophisticated transportation infrastructure, all the components must be integrated. Examples of all of these systems have already been deployed in North Carolina, including systems which combine up to five of the eight components.
