| The key responsibility of this group
is to help implement the NPDES Stormwater Permit
for the North Carolina Department of Transportation
(NCDOT). This group also provides technical assistance
on environmental issues and manual development to
the six sections within the Roadside Environmental
Unit and other units of the Division of Highway's
Operation Section.
Implementation of the NPDES Stormwater Permit
includes: inventory and prioritization of stormwater
sewer system; control of post-construction runoff;
report and track illicit connections and illegal
dumping; develop public education and participation
program; enhance roadside vegetation management;
control construction site runoff; carry out Stormwater
Pollution Prevention Plans (SPPP); and evaluate
borrow pit and waste pile activities.
Technical assistance to other sections and units
includes: develop permit application for borrow
pits in CCPCUA; create policy statements on topic
such as 20 acre and trout water rules; research
environmental topic such as fish passage: and
develop manuals on such topics as construction
and maintenance BMPs and erosion and sedimentation
control.
