Avery County
Comprehensive Transportation Plan Study
This
Comprehensive Transportation Plan (CTP) study is a
long range plan, which identifies major
transportation improvement needs and develops long
term solutions for the next 25 to 30 years. It
is a joint effort between the Town of Banner Elk,
the Town of
Beech Mountain, the Town of Elk Park,
the Town of Crossnore, the Town of Newland, the Town
of Seven Devils,
the
Village of Sugar Mountain, Avery
County, the North Carolina Department of
Transportation (NCDOT), and the High Country Rural
Planning Organization (RPO). The CTP study is
in the very early stages of initial data collection.
The
CTP study involves both government officials and the
public in an effort to determine the area’s future
transportation needs based on the best information
available including, but not limited to, population,
economic conditions, traffic trends and patterns of
land development in and around the town. The
study will also include alternative modes of
transportation. A recommendation for a
solution that provides for the safe, efficient,
cost-effective and environmentally sensitive use of
the transportation system, while addressing current
and future travel needs, will be made.
Public Survey
Avery County, the High Country Council of Governments, and NCDOT's
Transportation Planning Branch are seeking public
input as part of Avery County's Comprehensive
Transportation Planning process. Your responses will
help guide the development of Avery County's
Comprehensive Transportation Plan (CTP). During the
CTP process, the county's future transportation
network will be studied. The process will involve
local government officials and the public. Public
workshops will be held in the future to receive
additional input on the transportation issues in
Avery
County.
The survey is available online at

The survey will be open
until February 28, 2013.
