Northampton County
Comprehensive Transportation Plan Study
In 2008, the NCDOT Transportation
Planning Branch began a Comprehensive
Transportation Plan (CTP) study for Halifax
County. This study is intended to produce a long
range planning document that will assist local
governments and its representatives in making
transportation decisions in the next 25-30
years. The plan is a joint effort between
Halifax County, Peanut Belt Rural Planning
Organization (RPO), and NCDOT.
A joint CTP committee for both the Halifax
County CTP and Northampton County CTP was
formed, comprising of individuals with interest
in representing both counties and their need for
an improved transportation system. This
committee is composed of representatives from
Halifax and Northampton Counties, each
municipality in both counties, NCDOT, and Peanut
Belt RPO.
The committee met regularly to develop
recommendations that address long-range
transportation goals within Northampton County.
The CTP has been adopted by Northampton County,
Town of Conway, Town of Jackson, Town of Lasker,
Town of Rich Square, Town of Seaboard, Town of
Severn, and Town of Woodland. (There is a
separate CTP being done for the Roanoke
Rapids-Weldon-Gaston-Garysburg area, and
therefore Roanoke Rapids, Gaston, and Garysburg
are not included in the planning boundaries for
the Northampton County CTP). The plan has also
been endorsed by the Peanut Belt RPO, and was
adopted by the Board of Transportation on
January 5, 2012.
