Roanoke Rapids Comprehensive Transportation Plan Study
IIn
2008, the NCDOT Transportation Planning Branch
began a Comprehensive Transportation Plan (CTP)
study for the City of Roanoke Rapids. This
study is intended to produce a long range
planning document that will assist local
governments and its representatives in making
transportation decisions in the next 25-30
years. The plan is a joint effort between
Roanoke Rapids, Peanut Belt Rural Planning
Organization (RPO), and NCDOT.
In February 2008, a joint CTP committee for the
Northampton County CTP, Halifax County CTP, and
the City of Roanoke Rapids with the towns of
Gaston, Garysburg and Weldon was formed,
comprising of individuals with interest in
representing both counties and town for their
need for an improved transportation system.
This committee is composed of representatives
from Northampton and Halifax Counties, each
municipality in each county, NCDOT, and Peanut
Belt RPO.
As part of the study, a Travel Demand Model was
completed with the base year of 2008 and the
horizon year of 2035. In addition, a Pedestrian
Plan for Roanoke Rapids was recently completed,
and a Bike Plan for Roanoke Rapids, Gaston,
Garysburg, and Weldon is in the review process.
Currently the committee is working on finalizing
the Bike Plan.
The next meeting will be on Tuesday December 20,
2011 at 10am
to review the final Bike maps and develop
a Pedestrian Plan for Gaston, Garysburg, and
Weldon. The meeting will be held in its usual
location, at the J. Reuben Daniel City Hall &
Police Station, located at 1040 Roanoke Avenue
in Roanoke Rapids, NC.
