This CTP study is a long range
plan, which identifies major transportation
improvement needs and develops long term solutions
for the next 25 to 30 years.
It is a joint effort between Swain County,
Bryson City, the North Carolina Department of
Transportation (NCDOT), and the Southwestern Rural
Planning Organization (SWRPO).
The CTP process involves both
government officials and the public in an effort to
determine the county’s future transportation needs.
These needs are determined with the best information
available including, but not limited to, population,
economic conditions, traffic trends, and patterns of
land development.
The CTP is a multi-modal plan, addressing the
concerns of transit users, bicyclists, and
pedestrians in addition to highway users. Solutions
that promote and provide the safe, efficient,
cost-effective and environmentally sensitive use of
the transportation system, while addressing current
and future travel needs, will be developed and
recommended.
The Swain County CTP has been
adopted by the Town of Bryson City and Swain County
. It was adopted by the Board of Transportation on
September 6, 2012.
