Moore County Comprehensive Transportation Plan Study
Moore County has become a destination for individuals with high expectations for both their standard of living and their quality of life; it has historically experienced steady annual growth; and it has become a host for economic growth and population generators such as BRAC. NCDOT recognizes the significant role Moore County is playing in sustaining our State's economic prosperity and, therefore, the importance of Moore County's participation in the Statewide transportation planning process.
In July of 2010, NCDOT's Transportation Planning Branch initiated meetings with Moore County agencies and representatives to begin the cooperative development of a long-range, multi-modal infrastructure improvement plan for Moore County known as a Comprehensive Transportation Plan (CTP). Development of a county CTP will serve to address present and anticipated transportation needs as well as provide Moore County with a plan to promote a safe, efficient transportation system that insures statewide connectivity, emphasizes multimodal opportunities and protects the best interests of its citizens and their environment. The CTP planning process for Moore County will be a united effort between the County, the Triangle J Area Planning Organization, and the participating areas of Aberdeen, Cameron, Carthage, Foxfire Village, Pine Bluff, Robins, Southern Pines, Taylortown, Vass, Village of Pinehurst, Whispering Pines, and NCDOT's Transportation Planning Branch. NCDOT is looking forward to working closely with the Moore County community and we are excited to partner with a team that is so dedicated to the advancement of its communities and the successful development of a viable and unified CTP.
Progress will be detailed below throughout the projects development.

CURRENT STATUS
The Moore County Transportation Committee has initiated the charrette development process in conjunction with NCDOT, the Moore County Planning and Community Development Department, TARPO, and other Moore County Transportation stakeholders. Based on precedence and local feedback, there are four primary focus areas that would benefit from local consensus on facility improvements that, although needed in terms of long-range planning, do pose significant changes to the local transportation system and affect those communities within close proximity.
The Moore County Transportation Committee will be the conduit linking local stakeholders and residents to the design process. Thus, decisions about improvements to Moore County's transportation system will be developed through joint ownership with its residents. The method used to accomplish these goals will include a series of public meetings, called charrettes, to be held in each of the four focus areas. These meetings are designed to include the general public and give everyone a chance to participate in defining the goals, priorities, and future vision of their community's transportation system.
The Moore County Transportation Committee and sub-committee members are working with NCDOT, Moore County Planning and Community Development Department, and TARPO as representatives of these focus areas and also as public leaders helping engineers and planners connect with the local visions and goals given the parameters of roadway facility improvements needed including the search for feasible alternatives. Keep in mind, the scope of vision planning is not about the determination of specific alignments, but instead about defining a general location that the public can support. Years of study and analysis will follow the work done in this stage of planning to eliminate as many impacts as possible and ensure the best possible route is established.
