11/25/14, Special Alert for Entire State

Tue, 25 Nov 2014 17:15:49 EST

Motorists in North Carolina can expect heavier than usual traffic conditions due to holiday travel from Wednesday, November 26th through Monday, December 1st.
Most construction projects along Interstate, U.S., and N.C. routes will be suspended beginning at 4:00 PM on Tuesday, November 25th, until 9:00 AM on Monday, December 1st.

NCDOT reminds motorists to leave early and to travel during non-peak hours when possible.  North Carolina law requires that all vehicle occupants in the front as well as backseat wear their seat belt.  Motorists are encouraged to drive safely and obey all posted speed limits.

NCDOT can help you avoid peak congestion times during your 2014 Thanksgiving holiday travel. NCDOT’s online maps of 2013 Thanksgiving peak travel shows congested times and places on North Carolina interstates on the Wednesday before and the Sunday after Thanksgiving 2013.

To use the map, click on the triangle at the bottom left of the screen to watch the movie of traffic information play at one hour intervals. You can zoom and pan to specific areas of the state.

While the map shows trends for delays during last year’s Thanksgiving holiday travel times, it cannot predict exact congestion levels or locations for this year.  Check TIMS or call 511 for real time travel information during this year’s Thanksgiving travel!
