Awards:
These awards have been designed to recognize outstanding transportation projects, processes, and
people who incorporate environmental stewardship into the planning and project development processes
using FHWA funding sources. NCDOT nominated twelve outstanding projects and initiatives for the 2003
awards. Award plaques were presented to the winners in an Earth Day Ceremony on April 22, 2003, in
Washington, D.C. NCDOT was awarded with a 2003 Environmental Excellence Award for Excellence in
Environmental Leadership. The winning nomination was titled "A Partnership for Improving North
