If your special event needs to use any portion of the North Carolina highway system, the Department of Transportation wants to help. All special events that require the use of the NC highway system, including marathons, parades, bicycle races, festivals and other events need prior approval of NCDOT to ensure the accommodation of spectators and participants and the safety of all road users.
- Request a Special Event:
- Download the Special Event request form
- The request form must be submitted to the applicable Highway Division at least 90 days before the event is to take place. You will receive a response in writing.
- Please provide all required information on the request form. Include required support material, a list of which is provided on the request form.
