State Transportation Secretary Lyndo Tippett named a broad cross-section of ten employees to serve on the newly created North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) Diversity Council. The Diversity Council is coordinated through the Human Resources Division of the NCDOT, and is charged with promoting diversity within the department as well as promoting and maintaining an atmosphere of inclusion for all employees, contractors and citizens served by the department.
As reflected in North Carolina's population, the NCDOT is made up of unique individuals from different ethnic groups, national origin, age, gender, religion, sexual orientation, marital status and disabilities. The Diversity Council will focus on policy analysis, development, critique, and serve as a communications liaison within and between the various units, sections, and divisions. The council is expected to be very proactive in conducting activities that result in direction and policy decisions. Employees will serve for a period of one-year, and replacement employees will be staggered onto the Diversity Council for continuity purposes.
