As director of Human Resources, Darryl Bass is responsible for defining, developing, planning, directing and assessing all facets of human resources activities, including safety and risk management, for the N.C. Department of Transportation’s thousands of employees.
He brings more than 23 years of experience in human resources, including his most recent position as human resources director for the Office of State Human Resources, Office of the Governor, Office of State Budget and Management as well as the N.C. Department of Military and Veterans Affairs.
Bass has also worked as the human resources director at the N.C. Department of Cultural Resources and has held other human resources positions in a variety of state agencies, including NCDOT’s Division of Motor Vehicles, where he began his state government career. He also served as state human resources manager in the private sector for a human services company for three years.
Bass received his bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Campbell University.
