As deputy secretary for communications, community outreach and public engagement, Greer Beaty oversees the N.C. Department of Transportation's internal and external communications and is responsible for the strategic development and implementation of a broad range of public affairs activities, media relations and public awareness and education campaigns.
Beaty also served as NCDOT's communications director from 2009 to 2013 and oversaw the day-to-day management of the department's communications office. Prior to returning to NCDOT, Beaty had her own strategic communications consulting business.
She also previously worked with the Raleigh public relations firm of French/West/Vaughan, as well as the North Carolina Partnership for Children (Smart Start), and the N.C. Department of Commerce in the offices of tourism and community assistance where she oversaw communications for the Hurricane Floyd recovery effort.
Beaty grew up in Rocky Mount and graduated from East Carolina University in 1989 with a degree in communications and broadcasting.
