Stephanie King Chief Financial Officer

​​​​​​​​​As chief financial officer, Stephanie King oversees the financial operations of the N.C. Department of Transportation in accounting, budget, treasury, purchasing, debt financing, forecasting and spend management.

The Financial Management Division works to create a strategic function within the agency and financial partners ($5.6 billion annual budget). Information is used in accelerating project delivery, evaluating alternative financing (debt /tolling /other) and reengineering key business practices.

King began working at NCDOT in 1986 and held various positions before retiring as the director of Accounting and Budget with 30 years of service. She continued her career with private consultant work focused on DOT initiatives and transitioning agency IT resources to the N.C. Department of Information Technology. Transportation Secretary Eric Boyette asked her to join his executive team in August 2020, when she became NCDOT’s first permanent female chief financial officer. 

King is a native North Carolinian, born and raised in St. Pauls and Fayetteville. She earned her undergraduate degree from University of North Carolina at Wilmington and earned a Master of Business Administration from Meredith College. She and her husband, Danny, live in Garner and are proud parents to three children and three grandchildren.​
