Jack Debnam joined the N.C. Board of Transportation in March 2015.
A native of North Carolina, Debnam grew up in the Raleigh area before moving to Jackson County. He attended Louisburg College and worked in the grading and timber business before founding Western Carolina Properties real estate firm in Dillsboro and Cullowhee.
Debnam was twice president of the Northern Jackson Board of Realtors and chairman of the multiple listing service board. He was a founding board member and past president of Jackson County Habitat for Humanity and A.W.A.K.E., a child advocacy organization. He has also served on the Jackson County Chamber of Commerce executive board, the Smoky Mountain Local Management Entity and the executive board of the Southwestern Regional Commission, and as chairman of the Jackson County Planning Board.
Most recently, he served as the only unaffiliated chairman of the Jackson County Board of Commissioners ever elected in North Carolina.
