Walt Gray serves as the North Carolina Department of Transportation's chief deputy secretary.
Originally from Whiteville, N.C., Gray received his Bachelor of Arts in Finance from Wofford College, his Master of Science in Accountancy and Master of Business Administration from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington.
Gray holds an active North Carolina CPA license.
Prior to joining NCDOT, Gray served as administrator of the North Carolina Industrial Commission, where his primary duties included budget and personnel management as well as intergovernmental/legislative affairs.
In June 2013, Governor Pat McCrory appointed Gray to the North Carolina Supplemental Retirement Plans Board of Trustees, where he serves on the Board’s Audit Subcommittee.
Gray began his career at Wachovia Bank in Charlotte, where he worked in the Consumer Lending division. He also previously worked as an associate with Ernst & Young and Thompson, Price, Scott, Adams and in real estate development for a number of years.
