Mary Morton oversees the Inspector General’s office and its three branches: Financial and Organizational Performance Audits; External Audits; and Investigations. Her role includes promoting accountability, ensuring compliance with laws and regulations, and investigating reports of fraud, waste and abuse.
Ms. Morton, a Certified Public Accountant, has more than 16 years of experience auditing public, private and governmental entities. Prior to joining NCDOT, Ms. Morton held several managerial positions within the Internal Audit Department at the Wake County Public School System. Ms. Morton obtained her Master’s Degree in Accounting from Virginia Tech.
