Safe Routes to School (SRTS) is a program that enables and encourages children to walk and bicycle to school; makes walking and bicycling to school a safe and more appealing transportation option, and facilitates the planning, development and implementation of projects and activities that will improve safety and reduce traffic, fuel consumption, and air pollution in the vicinity of school.

How to Plan a Walk to School Event
Walk to School Day is a held every year in October. Each year more and more communities participate in this national event. This event, enjoyed by children and adults alike, creates opportunity to bring awareness to the need for safe walking environments near schools; promotes healthy safe physical activities for our youth; and empowers groups, including schools and local agencies, to work together to create a positive impact on their communities that has lasting value.
