The Division of Bicycle and Pedestrian Transportation offers a variety of services, including the Planning Grant Initiative and Regional Bicycle Planning Program, to help local communities plan for bicycle and pedestrian projects.
Planning Grant Initiative
The Bicycle and Pedestrian Planning Grant Initiative encourages municipalities and counties to develop comprehensive bicycle and pedestrian plans. These plans largely focus on enhancing mobility, improving safety and promoting economic and health benefits. Because of these efforts, the program has reached communities of all sizes from all regions of the state.
Regional Bicycle Planning Program
Through the Regional Bicycle Planning Program, regional planning organizations can better develop on-road and off-road bicycle route systems within a defined multi-county region.
Some of the goals of the regional plans include promoting healthy lifestyles, encouraging coordination of bicycle access or safety improvements and promoting policies that help integrate bicycle accommodations.
More information about the Planning Grant Initiative and Regional Bicycle Planning Program, as well as other planning services, is available on Connect NCDOT, the N.C. Department of Transportation's business partner resource site.
