The Division of Bicycle and Pedestrian Transportation is made up of several units that support North Carolina's transportation systems.
The Bicycle and Pedestrian Planning Unit provides a variety of technical support services to other local municipalities as well as other units of the N.C. Department of Transportation.
This includes administering the Planning Grant Initiative Program and Regional Bicycle Planning Program, coordinating with roadway designers in the review of State Transportation Improvement Program projects for bicycle and pedestrian needs and participating in data and technical research projects and safety programs.
The Division's Engineering Unit works with other units of the N.C. Department of Transportation to review infrastructure plans.
The Safety Unit administers the
Safe Routes to School program and works with other state agencies and national organizations to develop and implement effective safety and education programs for bicyclists and pedestrians.
