Address Changes

When you move to a new address within North Carolina, you will need to update both your driver license/ID card and vehicle registration within 60 days. Use our convenient online tools below to update the physical address on your driver license and vehicle registration.

Change the Address on Your Driver License/ID Card

Update your driver license first, as it will be used to verify your vehicle registration. Use our convenient Duplicate Driver License application to change your address online:

Have this information ready:

  • Valid North Carolina driver license or ID card (issued after January 2000)
  • Social Security Number, Individual Taxpayer Identification Number or U.S. Visa number
  • Valid email address

You can also use this tool if your driver license has been lost, stolen or destroyed.

Change the Address on Your Vehicle Registration

To change the address on your vehicle registration, you can use our online Duplicate Vehicle Registration Card application:

Have this information ready:

  • Vehicle license plate number
  • Last five characters of the vehicle title number
  • Valid email address, so we can email your receipt

You can also use this tool if your vehicle registration card has been lost, stolen or destroyed.

Cost: $20

If your vehicle's registration is expired, use the online Vehicle Registration application to update your address when you renew your vehicle's registration. The N.C. Division of Motor Vehicles cannot provide a duplicate if your registration is expired.
