What is MyDMV?
MyDMV is an online service that allows current customers of the N.C. Division of Motor Vehicles to view their personal license and vehicle information in one online location. You can access this service by clicking on the MyDMV icon on the
home page of the North Carolina Division of Motor Vehicles.
How Do I Register
No registration is required to use MyDMV, but you must provide your valid North Carolina driver license number or identification number, your date of birth and one of the following:
- The last four digits of your Social Security number
- Your I-94 Proof of Legal Entry number
- Your alien registration number
I am concerned about my privacy. Will my email address be sold to a third party or be made available under public records laws?
North Carolina law, email addresses used with MyDMV are not considered public record and will only be disclosed as allowed by state law and the

Once I sign in, what will I be able to see?
Once signed in, you will be able to see the current status of your driver license as well as information about any vehicles you have registered with NCDMV.
You will also be able to see links to other NCDMV services, such as online driver license renewal, online registration renewal and online driving records request.
Can I be signed in to MyDMV from multiple devices at the same time?
I cannot perform any renewals or make any payments on MyDMV, and the links send me to the N.C. Division of Motor Vehicles' website. Why can I not do any business on this portal?
MyDMV allows you to view detailed information about your accounts and also has convenient links to commonly used NCDMV online services. However, you must still provide your customer information to access the services.
Why have I been locked out of my account?
For security purposes, you will be locked out of your MyDMV account for 25 minutes if you enter invalid sign-in information three consecutive times. If you continue to have problems, please contact NCDMV Customer Service.
Will MyDMV work with my web browser or on my device?
MyDMV is compatible with Internet Explorer versions 9, 10 and 11 as well as the most recent desktop and mobile versions of Firefox, Google Chrome and Safari.
Will I be automatically signed out if I do not do anything while logged in?
If inactive for 20 minutes, you will be prompted to continue your session and will automatically be logged out if you do not respond.
Why is my driver license or ID card showing up multiple times in MyDMV? Does this mean that I should have multiple driver licenses or ID cards?
No, this means you have, at some point, obtained a duplicate license or ID card that has not yet expired. Only the most recently issued driver license or ID card is valid.
What should I do if I find an error in my vehicle or driver information while using MyDMV?
Contact NCDMV Customer Service if you find an error in your vehicle or driver information.
Can I use MyDMV to apply for a new North Carolina driver license?
If you are applying for a North Carolina driver license for the first time, you must do so in person at your local NCDMV driver license office.
Why is some of my vehicle and/or driver license information listed in green and some is listed in red?
Information listed in green is currently active. Items in red are either inactive or have expired.
Will MyDMV show an itemized breakdown of my registration and property tax fees?
MyDMV does not show an itemized breakdown of the registration fees you have paid. It will, however, provide you with an itemized breakdown of the vehicle property taxes paid to the NCDMV in any given year.
Can I renew my license or registration at any time using MyDMV?
Yes, MyDMV is available 24 hours a day.
What should I do if I want to use MyDMV but am not sure of my North Carolina driver license number?
If you are not sure, contact NCDMV Customer Service.
My marital status has changed. Can I use MyDMV to change my last name on my driver license?
No., You must go to an NCDMV driver license office to make the change and providing proper documentation that verifies your name change.
