Sponsor-A-Highway

The N.C. Department of Transportation’s Sponsor-A-Highway Program provides businesses, organizations and individuals the opportunity to sponsor litter removal on North Carolina roadsides while also advertising their company name.

This public-private partnership includes service providers that are responsible for marketing, securing sponsors, installing and maintaining signs and removing and disposing of litter using their own crews.

In return for contracting with one of the service providers to clean a one-mile segment of roadway, an acknowledgement panel identifying the sponsor is attached to a Sponsor-A-Highway Program sign.

Sponsorship Process

Based on technical proposals, NCDOT has selected the two providers listed below to perform this work. Each uses their own trained staff to perform this service.

Businesses, organizations or individuals interested in becoming a sponsor, should contact one of these private companies for more information.

Agreements entered by the sponsors and service providers are between these parties and do not include NCDOT. Furthermore, NCDOT is not involved in receiving nor providing any compensation in regard to the statewide Sponsor-A-Highway Program or any agreement between sponsors and service providers.

Sponsor-A-Highway Segments

Most roadways in North Carolina are included in the Sponsor-A-Highway Program, with the vast majority of the roadway miles open for sponsorship.

Available segments are shown on NCDOT’s litter management map. Potential sponsors who have identified a segment should record the mile hatch marks or beginning and end points using the map to locate the segment.
