Reporting Bicycle Wrecks to NCDOT

Cyclists and motorists can submit concerns about bicycle safety on roadways to the N.C. Department of Transportation.

If a crash occurs, contact local law enforcement immediately, and report other concerns, such as hazardous behaviors, to NCDOT. Information might be shared with local law enforcement or cycling organizations to help improve safety on roadways.

When reporting concerns, include as many of the following details as possible:

  • Name (may be left as anonymous if preferred)
  • Date and time of incident
  • City, town or county of the incident
  • Road, route or nearest intersection of the incident
  • Brief description of observed behavior
  • Number and type(s) of motor vehicle(s) or cyclist(s) involved

Bicycle and pedestrian safety is a concern not only for the Bicycle and Pedestrian Division but also for other agencies at the state, federal and local levels.
