The Summer Engineering Assistants Program offers paid summer internships for eligible students studying civil, environmental or biological engineering.
Participants also gain valuable experience that counts toward eligibility for permanent employment with the N.C. Department of Transportation.
Internship opportunities for students with other majors might be available based on NCDOT's needs.
Who Should Apply
College and graduate students studying civil, environmental or biological engineering should apply.
Qualified applicants must:
- Be enrolled at an accredited institution and in an associate, bachelor's or master's level civil, environmental or biological engineering program
- Have completed at least 24 semester hours upon employment
- Have a minimum 2.5 grade-point average

North Carolina State Government employment website and search for
Summer Engineering Assistant.
Applicants must attach a college transcript to the online application. Applications without a transcript will be considered incomplete.

Locations vary and depend on availability and location of current construction projects, job requirements and the applicant's needs and interests. An applicant may specify a desired location, but it is not guaranteed.
