Board of Transportation Approves $928,000 for Transportation at 2012 High Point Furniture Markets

RALEIGH - The N.C. Board of Transportation at their November meeting approved $928,000 in state funding for the city of High Point through the NCDOT Public Transportation Division International Trade Show Transportation Program. The funding will go towards supporting transportation for the 2012 fall and spring High Point Furniture Markets. The International Trade Show Transportation Program provides funding for transportation services for annual or semiannual trade shows of international significance. The funding will be divided between each furniture market and will be used to support transportation options for market attendees, such as free shuttle services to area hotels and park and ride lots, as well as circulator services in the High Point and Thomasville areas. Since Gov. Bev Perdue took office, the NCDOT Public Transportation Division has awarded more than $310 million in grant funds to local public transportation systems. These grants enable systems to provide people in all 100 counties access to education, job opportunities and health care. For more information on grant programs through the Public Transportation Division of NCDOT, as well as transit systems that serve the public throughout the state, visit www.ncdot.gov/nctransit.
