RALEIGH - The N.C. Department of Transportation will close Island Ford Road between U.S. 221 and Good Creek Church Road near Harris in Rutherford County for 30 days beginning Friday, Nov. 11 at 8 a.m., weather permitting. The road is expected to reopen by Dec. 11. The closure is necessary for crews to construct a new intersection at U.S. 221 and Island Ford Road.
During the closure, motorists traveling Island Ford Road are asked to use the following signed detour route:
U.S. 221 to Buck Collins Road to Scruggs Road to Good Creek Church Road to Island Ford Road. The work is part of a $66.1 million project to widen U.S. 221 from the South Carolina state line to north of the U.S. 74 Bypass in Rutherford County. The project contractor is DeVere Construction Co. of Alpena, Mich. NCDOT reminds motorists to watch signs for construction information, stay alert and obey the posted speed limit.
