WHAT: N.C. Governor's Highway Safety Program Holiday "Booze It & Lose It" campaign kickoff event

WHEN:   Thursday, Dec. 1, at 11 a.m.

WHERE: Salem Square, Old Salem
             Winston Salem

COMMENTS:   Local law enforcement agencies from across the state will join the Governor's Highway Safety Program to kick off its Holiday "Booze It & Lose It" campaign.

GHSP Director Becky Wallace, Forsyth County Sheriff William T. Schatzman, Winston-Salem Police Department Chief Scott Cunningham and Forsyth County District Attorney Jim O'Neal will speak at the event.

The holiday campaign begins Saturday, Dec. 3 and continues through Monday, Jan. 2. Additional checkpoints and stepped-up patrols will be conducted across the state during the campaign.

Officers charged more than 3,800 North Carolina motorists with driving while impaired during the 2010 Holiday  "Booze It & Lose It" holiday campaign. More than 13,000 stepped-up patrols and checkpoints were conducted.
