RALEIGH - Contractors for the N.C. Department of Transportation will begin rehabilitating the bridge deck on Interstate 240 East over the I-240 West access ramp from Tunnel Road at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 21, weather permitting. The work will take place until 6:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 25. Work will also take place the following weekend from 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 28 to 6:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 1, when the project is scheduled for completion.
During the project, traffic on the I-240 East bridge will be reduced to one lane, and traffic will not be able to access I-240 East from Chunns Cove Road. Motorists on Chunns Cove Road will be routed east on Tunnel Road, following the signs to I-240 East (Exit 7).
This is one of several bridge deck rehabilitation projects that have taken place around Asheville in recent months as part of a $6.5 million American Recovery and Reinvestment Act-funded contract to repair 31 bridge decks in Buncombe and Madison counties. The work is being performed by project contractor Taylor and Murphy of Asheville.
