Motorists should expect congestion; paving to be completed by Friday
RALEIGH- The N.C. Department of Transportation will close the outside lane of eastbound Interstate 40 at Mile Marker 124 in Hickory beginning Wednesday, Dec. 14, at 8:30 a.m. to repair a 60-foot section of highway. Weather permitting, the work will be completed no later than Friday.
The concrete slab under the highway has deteriorated and will be replaced. Once that is completed, crews will repave the highway. The paving work has to be done during the day while the temperatures are above 40 degrees Fahrenheit.
There will be one through lane for eastbound traffic as crews dig up the area. Motorists should expect delays and congestion between Exit 121 and Exit 125, as well as reduce speeds and be cautious in the work zone.
