RALEIGH - The N.C. Department of Transportation will hold an open house and public hearing meeting on Thursday, Dec. 8 regarding the replacement of the Topsail Island Bridge over the Intracoastal Waterway on N.C. 50/210 in Onslow County.
An open house will be held from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. and the hearing will be held at 7 p.m. at the Surf City Community Center, located at 201 Community Center Drive.
The hearing includes a presentation from the department and a public comment period. The opportunity to submit written comments or questions also will be provided.
NCDOT proposes to replace the existing steel truss swing-span bridge on N.C. 50/210 in Surf City with a new bridge. The existing bridge was constructed in the 1950s and is scheduled for replacement.
After a series of meetings with both the public and environmental agencies, more than 20 design alternatives presented at these meetings have been narrowed down to seven. The department will present the seven designs at the hearing.
