NCDOT to Temporarily Close Section of Ruralview Road in Alamance County for Bridge Replacement

RALEIGH - The N.C. Department of Transportation will temporarily close a section of Ruralview Road near Pleasant Hill Liberty Road in Alamance County to replace the bridge over Cane Creek.  The road will be closed from 8 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 30, until 4 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 16, weather permitting. Motorists should use the following signed detour:
  • N.C. 49 to Pleasant Hill Liberty Road to Ruralview Road.

The existing traditional timber-construction bridge is being replaced with a large-diameter pipe bridge, which will reduce the bridge construction cost by half.  In addition, the pipe bridge costs much less to maintain because it has fewer components that require regular maintenance.  With the exception of vegetation management around the structure, the pipe bridge is virtually maintenance free.

The new pipe bridge will also accommodate all traffic, including trucks and emergency vehicles, as it will not be subject to the 15-ton load restriction of the current timber bridge.

NCDOT reminds motorists traveling in the work zone to watch signs for construction information, stay alert and obey the posted speed limit. For real-time travel information at any time, call 511, visit the NCDOT website or follow NCDOT on Twitter. Another option is NCDOT Mobile, a phone-friendly version of the NCDOT website.
