RALEIGH - N.C. Department of Transportation
Secretary Gene Conti has awarded a contract for resurfacing on several sections of U.S. 301, N.C. 481, N.C. 481 Business, N.C. 561, N.C. 97 and N.C. 122 throughout Halifax County totaling 11.4 miles. The $1.2 million contract was awarded to Barnhill Contracting Co. of Tarboro. Work can begin as early as March 16, with final completion scheduled for no later than Dec. 1. The following sections of road will be resurfaced: U.S. 301 from where it merges with N.C. 903 in northern Halifax to where it separates from N.C. 903 south of Halifax; N.C. 481 from I-95 to Faith Road; N.C. 481 Business from U.S. 301 to the western Enfield city limit; N.C. 561 from Beaverdam Road to Drapers Road; N.C. 97 from the Edgecombe County line to N.C. 122; and N.C. 122 from the Edgecombe County line to N.C. 125.This is one of 30 contracts totaling $82.6 million awarded by Conti this month for highway and bridge projects across North Carolina. NCDOT awarded the contracts to the lowest bidders, as required by state law. The contracts awarded came in about 8 percent, or about $7.2 million, below NCDOT estimates.
