NCDOT Awards $1.3 Million Contract to Resurface Roads in Wayne County

RALEIGH - N.C. Department of Transportation Secretary Gene Conti has awarded a contract for resurfacing on two sections of U.S. 70 and one section of N.C. 55 in Wayne County, totaling 10.6 miles. The $1.3 million contract was awarded to S.T. Wooten Corp. of Wilson. Work can begin as early as Nov. 26, with final completion scheduled for no later than Aug. 1, 2013. The following sections of road will be resurfaced: U.S. 70 east of Goldsboro from Beston Road to the Lenoir County Line; U.S. 70 West from Lake Wackena Road to Casey Chapel Church Road; and N.C. 55 from U.S. 117 Alternate in Mount Olive east to N.C. 403. These roads will be open to traffic throughout the project with flagmen directing motorists through the construction site when lane closures are in place. This is one of 15 contracts totaling $73.6 million awarded by Conti in October for highway and bridge projects across North Carolina. NCDOT awarded the contracts to the lowest bidders, as required by state law. The bids received on the projects awarded came in about 9.1 percent, or $7.4 million, below NCDOT estimates. Since Gov. Bev Perdue took office in January of 2009, NCDOT has awarded 727 highway contracts totaling $5 billion to ensure that all North Carolinians have access to jobs and educational opportunities. Gov. Perdue continues to support immediate jobs in the construction sector and the goal of ensuring that our transportation network facilitates access to jobs, education and healthcare for the future.NCDOT reminds motorists to watch signs for construction information, stay alert and obey the posted speed limit. For real-time travel information at any time, call 511, visit or follow NCDOT on Twitter at Another option is NCDOT Mobile, a phone-friendly version of the NCDOT website.
