N.C. Department of Transportation Secretary Gene Conti has awarded a contract to resurface 20.3 miles of roads in Chowan and Washington counties.The $1.9 million contract was awarded to Rose Brothers Paving Company, Inc. of Ahoskie. Work is scheduled to begin as early as Feb. 27, with final completion scheduled for no later than Sept. 28.The project includes resurfacing along 12.7 miles of N.C. 32 from U.S. 64 to N.C. 94 as well as the following sections of roads: 3.3 miles of Drummond's Point Road from Yeopim Road to Indian Trail Road; 1.3 miles of Macedonia Road-Mexico Road from W. Queen Street-Tip Toe Road to Hickory Fork Road; and 3.0 miles of Keep Road from Newland Road to 3 miles south.This is one of 39 contracts totaling $203.2 million awarded by Conti for highway and bridge projects across North Carolina. NCDOT awarded the contracts to the lowest bidders, as required by state law. The bids received on the projects awarded came in about 2.9 percent, or about $6.2 million, below NCDOT estimates.Since Gov.
