NCDOT Awards $1.9 Million for Widening and Resurfacing Project in Martin County

RALEIGH - N.C. Department of Transportation Secretary Gene Conti has awarded a contract to widen and resurface almost 23 miles of roads in Martin County.The $1.9 million contract was awarded to Rose Brothers Paving Company, Inc. of Ahoskie. Work is scheduled to begin as early as Feb. 27, with final completion scheduled for no later than Oct. 5.The project includes widening and resurfacing along 3.4 miles of N.C. 125 from N.C. 903 to the Hamilton city limits as well as the following sections of roads: 2.5 miles of Lee Road from Smithwick Creek Road to Sweet Home Road; 3.5 miles of Race Track Road from Leggett Mill Road to Prison Camp Road; 1.2 miles of Mill Inn Road from U.S. 17 to Johnny Corey Road; 2.3 miles of Sweet Home Road from Bear Grass Road to the Beaufort County line; 1.0 mile of Smithwick Creek Road from Bear Grass Road to Jack Roberson Road; 2.7 miles of Grand Canyon Road from U.S. 17 to Bear Grass Road; 0.7 miles of Roberson Road from the Robersonville city limits to C. L. Keel Road; 1.9 miles of Williams Road from Prison Camp Road to the end of the road; and 3.7 miles of Poplar Point Road from N.C. 125 to Fort Branch Road.This is one of 39 contracts totaling $203.2 million awarded by Conti for highway and bridge projects across North Carolina. NCDOT awarded the contracts to the lowest bidders, as required by state law. The bids received on the projects awarded came in about 2.9 percent, or about $6.2 million, below NCDOT estimates.Since Gov.
