Secretary Gene Conti has awarded a contract to widen and resurface 5.7 miles of N.C. 92 from U.S. 264 to the Bath Creek Bridge in Beaufort County. The $2.4 million contract was awarded to S.T. Wooten Corp. of Wilson. Work can begin Aug. 27 and is scheduled for completion by June 1, 2013.This routine maintenance project will extend the lifespan of the pavement, improve safety and provide a smoother ride for motorists. This is one of 24 contracts totaling $119.9 million awarded by Conti in July for highway and bridge projects across North Carolina. NCDOT awarded the contracts to the lowest bidders, as required by state law. The bids received on the projects awarded came in about 9.5 percent, or $12.6 million, below NCDOT estimates. Since Gov. Perdue took office in January of 2009, NCDOT has awarded 678 highway contracts totaling $4.7 billion to ensure that all North Carolinians have access to jobs and educational opportunities. Gov. Perdue continues to support immediate jobs in the construction sector and the goal of ensuring that our transportation network facilitates access to jobs, education and healthcare for the future.
