NCDOT Awards $2.7 Million to Resurface Roads in Alamance County

RALEIGH - N.C. Department of Transportation Secretary Gene Conti has awarded two contracts totaling $2.7 million to resurface 15 miles of roadway in Alamance County. A $1.2 million contract was awarded to the Thompson-Arthur Division of APAC-Atlantic Inc. of Greensboro to resurface a .5-mile section of Cadiz Street from Durham Street to Glen Raven Road. The contract also includes a 2.7-mile section of Huffman Mill Road from the Guilford County line to just south of University Drive/Grand Oaks Boulevard and a 1.9-mile section of Front Street/Oak Street from just east of Inglewood Drive to Haggard Avenue. These roads will be widened two feet on either side to improve safety. After the widening work is complete, the roads will be resurfaced.Work can begin as early as June 25 and is scheduled to be completed by Oct.1.Conti also awarded a $1.5 million contract to Riley Paving Inc. of Carthage to resurface 10 miles of roadway in Alamance County. Work can begin as early as June 25 and is scheduled to be completed by Nov. 16.The following roads will be resurfaced:
  • A four-mile section of N.C. 54 from just east of N.C. 119 to just east of Mount Willen Road/Salem Church Road;
  • A .3-mile section of Also Street from Cheeks Lane to Dixon Road;
  • A .2 mile section of Bethany Drive from Cheeks Lane to Dixon Road;
  • A .5-mile section of Landi Lane from N.C. 119 to the end of the pavement;
  • A one-mile section of Cooks Mill Road from White Level Road to Mebane Rodgers Road;
  • A .1-mile section of Eastern High School Road from Mebane Rodgers Road to end of maintenance;
  • A .5-mile section of Pine Street from Wilkins Road/Trollingwood Road to U.S. 70;
  • A 1.1-mile section of Isley Road from N.C. 49 to the end of pavement;
  • A 2.4-mile section of Greenwood Drive from Burch Bridge Road to Union Ridge Road;
  • A .3-mile section of South Ridge Road from old Glencoe Road to the end of pavement;
  • A .06-mile section of Oak Ridge Court from South Ridge Road to the cul-de-sac;
  • A .06-mile section of Pine Ridge Court from South Ridge Road to the cul-de-sac;
  • A .09-mile section of Maple Ridge Drive from the pavement change to South Ridge Road; and
  • A .5-mile section of Huffine Street from Westbrook Avenue to N.C 100.
These are two of 30 contracts totaling $109.3 million awarded by Conti for highway and bridge projects across North Carolina. NCDOT awarded the contracts to the lowest bidders, as required by state law. The bids received on the projects awarded came in about 3.9 percent, or $4.4 million, below NCDOT estimates. Since Gov. Bev Perdue took office in January of 2009, NCDOT has awarded 631 highway contracts totaling $4.3 billion to ensure that all North Carolinians have access to jobs and educational opportunities.Gov. Perdue continues to support immediate jobs in the construction sector and the goal of ensuring that our transportation network facilitates access to jobs, education and healthcare for the future.
