NCDOT Awards $722,401 to Resurface Bridges in Caldwell and Wilkes Counties

RALEIGH - N.C. Department of Transportation Secretary Gene Conti has awarded a contract to resurface three bridges in Caldwell County and one in Wilkes County.The $722,401 contract was awarded to Lanford Brothers Company Inc. of Roanoke, Va. The work, which includes installing concrete overlay on the bridge decks, can start between Sept. 5, 2012 and April 1, 2013, and must be completed within 120 days of the start date. Temporary lane closures may take place during the project.The following bridges will be resurfaced in Caldwell County: U.S. 64/N.C. 18 in Gamewell over Setzer Creek. Work cannot be done from 4-7 p.m. Monday through Friday; and U.S. 321 North and South in Granite Falls over Dudley Shoals Road. This work will be done at night from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.The following bridge will be resurfaced in Wilkes County: N.C. 268 northeast of Ferguson over Beaver Creek. Lanes cannot be closed from 6-9 a.m. Monday through Friday.This is one of 24 contracts totaling $119.9 million awarded by Conti in July for highway and bridge projects across North Carolina. NCDOT awarded the contracts to the lowest bidders, as required by state law. The bids received on the projects awarded came in about 9.5 percent, or $12.6 million, below NCDOT estimates. Since Gov. Perdue took office in January of 2009, NCDOT has awarded 678 highway contracts totaling $4.7 billion to ensure that all North Carolinians have access to jobs and educational opportunities. Gov. Perdue continues to support immediate jobs in the construction sector and the goal of ensuring that our transportation network facilitates access to jobs, education and healthcare for the future.
