NCDOT Closes Bridge on Bottoms Dairy Road in Wilson County

RALEIGH - The N.C. Department of Transportation this week has closed the bridge on Bottoms Dairy Road over Cross Town Creek, east of Elm City in Wilson County for emergency repairs. During a routine inspection of the bridge, crews discovered two broken piles under the bridge deck. Piles are the long columns that support the bridge. Work is expected to begin next week, weather permitting. NCDOT is planning to reopen the bridge to traffic before the end of the month.

Motorists should use Rock Quarry Road and Langley Road to travel around the closure. The bridge is currently scheduled to be replaced in 2013. For more information on the NCDOT bridge inspection process, visit https://www.ncdot.gov/initiatives-policies/Transportation/bridges/.
