Closure is necessary for bridge construction; detour will be posted for traffic
CHARLOTTE -The N.C. Department of Transportation will keep a section of Browne Road in Charlotte closed through mid-December. The road closure is part of the Charlotte Outer Loop project, which will complete the final 5.7 miles of I-485 in northeast Mecklenburg County.
The closure has been in place since April 9 to allow contractor Blythe Construction to build a bridge that will carry traffic on Browne Road over I-485. Additional utility work is needed, requiring the closure to be extended another 30 days. Motorists will continue to follow a posted detour using Dearmon Road, Prosperity Church Road and Eastfield Road.
The $139.5 million project is scheduled for completion in December 2014.
NCDOT reminds motorists to watch signs for construction information, stay alert and obey the posted speed limit.
