- Weather permitting, the N.C. Department of Transportation
will begin work next week to enhance mobility and safety at the intersection of Saint Marks Church Road and Rural Retreat Road in Alamance County. NCDOT and the City of Burlington have determined that a recent increase in traffic volume warrants a turn lane and traffic signal at this location.Crews will begin installing a left turn lane on southbound Saint Marks Church Road at its intersection with Rural Retreat Road on Monday, June 18. Work hours are 9 a.m. until 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. The turn lane is expected to be complete within 30 days and the traffic signal installation is expected to occur later this year. During construction of the turn lane, motorists may experience increased congestion and travel delays due to lane closures or traffic shifts. Access to residential driveways may be restricted at certain times; however, project staff will coordinate with residents to minimize the inconvenience. NCDOT reminds motorists traveling in the work zone to watch signs for construction information, stay alert and obey the posted speed limit.
