CHARLOTTE -The N.C. Department of Transportation will begin improvements on the bridge from U.S. 74 (Independence Boulevard) West to the John Belk Freeway in Charlotte at 9 p.m. Friday, Sept. 21, weather permitting. The bridge will be closed until 6 a.m. Monday, Sept. 24.
The $627,000 contract was awarded to G.A. and F.C. Wagman Inc. of York, PA to remove the existing concrete on the bridge deck and replace it with latex modified concrete. The contractor will also replace the existing pavement markings, and will seed and mulch any disturbed grassy areas.
The work in the contract will require closing the bridge for two additional weekends to be determined between now and the completion date, Dec. 20. The contractor will also have to schedule lane closures during the week to complete the project.
While the bridge is closed this weekend, traffic will be detoured to the Brookshire Freeway to Davidson Street.
