CHARLOTTE -The N.C. Department of Transportation will close Alexanderana Road between N.C. 115 (Old Statesville Road) and Eastfield Road in Charlotte from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, July 28, weather permitting.
This road closure will allow crews to complete paving sections of the intersection of N.C. 115 and Alexanderana Road. Once the paving is finished, traffic will be shifted so the remainder of the intersection work can be completed. Motorists will be detoured along N.C. 115 and Eastfield Road with the assistance of law enforcement.
The road closure is part of the $139.5 million Charlotte Outer Loop project, which will complete the final 5.7 mile segment of I-485 from west of N.C. 115 to west of I-85. The finished project will feature an eight-lane freeway and new interchanges at Prosperity Church Road and Mallard Creek Road. A new design called a diverging diamond (DDI) will be built at the Mallard Creek Road interchange. The DDI requires traffic to exit the interstate and drive on the opposite side of the road before resuming its original pattern. Several states are using this design that improves traffic flow and safety.
The project is scheduled for completion in December 2014.
