NCDOT Traffic Cameras Back in Service in Winston-Salem

Fiber line struck during storm drain pipe installation caused outage
RALEIGH -More than 20 N.C. Department of Transportation traffic cameras are now back online in Winston-Salem after a service disruption yesterday morning. It knocked out power to traffic cameras along I-40, U.S. 421, Business 40 and U.S. 52.NCDOT employees discovered late yesterday that a contractor installing a storm drain pipe on the Hastings Hill Road bridge replacement project at U.S. 421 struck the fiber line connecting the cameras to the Triad Regional Transportation Management Center. The department called in a contractor to make emergency repairs to the system to ensure it would be fully operational before the holiday weekend. The cameras came back online shortly before 5 a.m. today. NCDOT is currently working with a contractor to schedule permanent repairs to the system early next month.Citizens can view traffic cameras in the Triad and across the state any time at http://tims.ncdot.gov/tims/default.aspx.
