RALEIGH -The N.C. Department of Transportation will hold a public meeting, called a citizens' informational workshop, to discuss the temporary closure of Third Street (U.S. 421) in Wilmington.
The meeting will be held on Thursday, April 18, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the city of Wilmington Council Chambers, Thalian Hall, located at 310 Chestnut St. Citizens are invited to drop in anytime during those hours and speak individually with NCDOT officials.
NCDOT proposes to close Third Street for several months beginning in the fall of 2014, while crews replace an aging pipe used for overflow from Greenfield Lake. The pipe is under Third Street and South Front Street. In addition, the department proposes to improve pedestrian and bicycle access at this intersection.
During the road closure, traffic will be detoured. The work is expected to be complete by spring 2015.
