RALEIGH - The N.C. Department of Transportation will hold a public meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 8, to present a proposed modified design plan for improvements to New Leicester Highway (N.C. 63) from Gilbert Road to 600 feet past the intersection of Newfound Road/Dix Creek Chapel Road in Buncombe County.
The meeting will take place at the Leicester Elementary School, located at 31 Gilbert Road in Leicester. It will begin with an open house from 4 to 5:30 p.m., followed by a formal presentation at 6 p.m., and ending with a question and answer session until 8 p.m.
Based on local input gathered at a public meeting in December, NCDOT modified the original design for this project to include traditional intersections instead of roundabouts. NCDOT staff will present three proposed design alternatives at the meeting and discuss project right of way and relocation requirements, as well as answer questions and collect public input. Comments are being accepted until Oct. 23.
Copies of project maps can be found online.
